One of the most comforting things in life is knowing that you’re taken care of. The assurance of having someone to handle things for you is a wonderful feeling. What a good husband does for a wife. What a good parent does for a child. They provide. They “take care of business.” They make sure that all needs are met. Provision. That’s what God does for us. He provides. He is the ultimate provider. As the song says, “He’s a good, good Father.” The whole Bible flows with examples of God’s providential care over all His creation. He didn’t speak it into being and then stand back and let it go. He watched over it. He takes care of it. He supports it. And we are his children. This means that we get child support. He’s not a “dead beat dad.” He takes care of His children!
God has blessed us richly in every way possible. We have all that we need because of God in Jesus Christ. We are here because God has brought us here. We are blessed because through Jesus Christ, God’s abundant grace has poured over us. We have so much to be thankful to God for, yet here we are at this time of Thanksgiving, and most of us are probably more worried and distracted than thankful. It is so easy for us to get caught up in worry, to fret, to be distracted by the troubles of this world. Christ knows that there will be times in our lives when we will feel as if God is not taking care of us. And so Christ says to us, in essence, “Look! Look around you! You see the birds are fed. You see the beautiful flowers growing all around you. God did that. And if God will do that for the plants and the animals, God will most certainly take care of you, too!” We make mistakes. We make poor decisions that separate us from God. Still, God’s grace extends to us. Still, God loves us and wants the best for us. Always, by the grace of God we have all that we need!
My Pastors said something Sunday as they were preaching that stuck with me. Usually when people hear Philippians 4:19, their minds immediately go to money. And yes, God supports us and supplies us with money too. But, Him being a good Father, he also supports us and supplies us with plenty love, peace, healing, grace and that list goes on and on and on. So when the cares of life begin to weigh you down, remember that God has YOU on His mind. You’re His child and He cares for you. Don’t worry about a thing. You get child support! God’s going to handle it! Don’t worry, be happy! GOD’S GOT THIS!
