“I will remain confident in this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
What a declaration. What a statement of faith! At the time that David wrote this Psalm, he was being attacked by armies. War had been waged against him. Even his own son, Absalom, chased him wanting to kill him. All of these things were going on in David’s life and he declares that he WILL see the goodness of the Lord. It’s easy to have faith and it’s easy to praise God when everything is going well. But often, for many, when the tables turn and things start going downhill, sometimes their faith wavers. But then there are others who have the mentality and the faith that says “I don’t care if all hell breaks loose, I will YET see the goodness of the Lord!”
One key word in this verse is the word “remain.” The word remain here indicates that David had BEEN confident in his belief and that he shall CONTINUE having that belief. Him believing in the goodness of the Lord was nothing new. And that’s what I want you to do today…remain! Why? Well, has God EVER failed you? Has God EVER let you down? Has God EVER turned His back on you? No! So if you’re feeling a little shaky in your faith, just think back on all the things He has brought you through! If you can remember God’s resume, your faith will REMAIN!
David said that he would remain confident (sure, steadfast, positive and poised) in the fact that he would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of he living. My friends, you don’t have to die and go to heaven to experience the goodness of the Lord. He want you to experience His goodness right here on Earth! He says in Isaiah 1:19 that if you’re willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land. He also says in John 10:10 that He (Jesus) came so that you may have life more abundantly. THAT is experiencing His goodness on Earth. In 3 John 1:2 He says that He wants you to live prosperous even as your soul prospers. THAT is experiencing the goodness of the Lord on Earth.
Finally, as “topsy turvy” as things may be in your life right now, I want to admonish you to hold on to every promise of God. For His promises are sure. He will not and can not fail. Through everything David went through, he remained confident that he would see the goodness of God. And you too will see God’s goodness. Don’t give up on God. Don’t throw in the towel. He’s going to come through for you just in the nick of time. And then you too will be able to proclaim that you ARE seeing the goodness of the Lord and that you will REMAIN confident in Him whom you believe in.
Kingdom blessing to you!
