“…And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.” ~Acts 27:44 (KJV)
Shipwreck. That describes some of the most horrific situations that you’ve had to endure. At first, things appear to be going just fine. Then, it gets a bit cloudy. Next comes the darkness and the rain. It’s like the gentle rains in your life just got an upgrade to a hurricane. And before you know it, everything falls apart. Nothing seems to be going right. Hurt after hurt. Disappointment after disappointment. Pain after pain. It feels like you’re out in the middle of the ocean…alone. Shipwrecked. But afar off, you can see the shore. You have this feeling that if you can just make it to shore, new life can begin. But, everything has fallen apart. So how can you make it to the shore when there’s nothing but broken pieces of your life all around you? Do you give up and let life drown you? No! Grab those pieces and make the best out of them! In those pieces, there’s got to be a piece of faith somewhere. There’s got to be a piece of power in there. There’s got to be a piece of determination there. Can you make it? Yes! You WILL make it…even if you have to make it on broken pieces!
Tough times may seem like marathons, but the important thing to remember is that they do come to an end. Don’t look at a snapshot and think it’s the whole movie. That’s just a part of the whole picture. Remember that tough times don’t last, but tough people do! If you’re going through a difficult time right now in your life, then my heart goes out to you. I sincerely feel for you because I’ve been there all-too often. I know the heartache and pain that comes along with major failure. I know what it feels like to have my life flipped upside down, not knowing where to turn or what to do next. I know what heartbreak feels like. But, you’ve got to keep moving. Have you forgotten that “He heals the brokenhearted?” (Psalms 147:3) God is the only one who has the ability to take those broken pieces and make you whole once again.
Walter Hawkins made a song that has these lyrics:
“In case you have fallen by the way side of life; dreams and visions shattered…you’re all broken inside. You don’t have to stay in the shape that you’re in. The potter wants to put you back together again.”
So then, even when life seems to be the worst, know that God has a plan for your life. You have to be able to take the bitter with the sweet. It’s not going to be easy always. Things will fall apart. But sometimes, God allows this to happen just so that He will get the glory out of putting you back together again. Right now, if you feel as if your life is in shambles, be encouraged and know that you WILL make it! Be determined. You’ll make it…even if it’s on broken pieces.
