Self Inventory

Self Destruction

“David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die!  He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.” Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!”  ~2 Samuel 5-7a (NIV)

In this chapter, the prophet Nathan sharply rebukes David.  I’m sure we all know all of the great things that David did; but, he also had done some horrific things as well, like murder!  The Lord then sends the prophet to “put David in his place.”  David then acknowledged that he had sinned against God.  The Lord forgave him, but he had to pay for his sins.  You need to read this entire chapter!

I’m sharing this because God wants us to live our best life.  Which is His intention while we are on the Earth. (John 10:10) But we can’t completely live that life if we never clean our own lives up.  I personally had to pray about some things concerning myself recently.  I never want to be the preacher that sees everyone else’s faults but never my own!  Doing self inventory will help you avoid self destruction!

One of the most awesome prayers is “Lord, show me myself.”  We can love God with our whole hearts but there is still a need for improvement in us.  Just as we go to the gym and workout to make our physical bodies better, we need to do the same for our spiritual selves.  We exercise in the spirit by reading the Word of God and by communicating with Him in prayer.

There is an old song that said “Let the light from the lighthouse shine on me.”  Now ask yourself, “what does that light show in me?” If we looked at ourselves through God’s eyes, what would we see?  I can even sense as I’m typing this that there are some of you that are really seeking God to do better and be better.  And you’re feeling the weight of that which needs to fall off of you.  That’s Holy Spirit showing you yourself!  I felt it as well.  I want to pray with you now.

Father, we thank You for being such a great, kind and merciful God.  Lord continue to make us better.  Make us whole.  Father God reveal to us that which is in us that would cause us to become stagnant.  Lord take out the anger, the rage, self righteousness, pride and anything that’s not like you.  We repent.  We thank you Lord that you hear us always.  Thank you for allowing us to do self inventory.  We only want to serve You. We want to make you smile.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

Until next week…..
